I also cut out a couple of images from a travel abroad catalog and scanned them.

Then I composed a background made of a few textures I found on the Internet. I put the images together in Photoshop.

I wanted the creature to walk across the background. The camera would be a smaller frame which follows the creature as it moves.
First, I keyframed the main creature's position, and I manipulated the speed graph so that it would start slow and accelerate, mimicking the way a jellyfish propels itself through water. I used the puppet tool to move the tentacles, but I think I could have made the movements more exaggerated. I used only the puppet tool on the yellow slug on the main guy's head. I think that was a more successful animation because it looks rather slug-like.
I also used variable time on the blue blob when it falls. I made it accelerate as it fell, also stretching it out and squishing it when it hit the ground.
After about halfway through my animating, I realized that it was already 10 seconds long and I wasn't sure if I would have enough time to finish the 2nd half so I will save the second half for a future project or maybe finish it on my own.. So I guess you can say this video ends in a cliffhanger :)
Oh and this has sound! I got the clips from freesound.org
Rainy Day from Chiang Leng on Vimeo.

Sweet! You should take up my ideas about the astronaut and gum.. i think it would be hilarious. I'll even record the audio myself.
ReplyDeletemaybe i'll do alternate endings...
ReplyDeleteI love this. Great textures, the movement on the 2 characters is distinct, personal. The sound is perfect. The whole thing really sets a subtle mood. Beautiful work.
